February 2011
We wish our members all the best for year 2011! Last year was full of events and it finished with Christmas celebrations organized in co-operation with the Finnish Lutheran congregation. The weather was not favoring our event and we had to move the venue undercover from the Finnish Park . According to Kaisa Silvola’s article the event turned out fantastic, the emotions were high, the food was good and everybody was happy. However some children doubted the authenticity of Santa.
In the end of January we organized Martin Cup dance and golf game at Caloundra golf Club. Saturday night dance was successful with lots of good food and the latest Finnish music played by Olli Kautiainen. The committee was very happy to have a free night from the kitchen duties.
Sunday morning golf attracted 35 players. Few showers during the day did not dampen the spirit of eager players. In spite of a late start all went well. Koski Family excelled again, grandmother Paula won the women’s game and son Marcus won both the men's straight and handicap games. Young Kodie (13y) was forth in men’s handicap game. Grandpa Risto did not do that well this time, but that’s golf.
Sunday 20 February the golf division organised golf picnic at Kilcoy Golf course. Eva and Olli Manner had donated all the goodies for the sausage sizzle. All 28 participants enjoyed a fantastic day in spite of the hottest day of the year. Nothing can discourage a golfer! The game was 4-man Ambrose (however in some teams had 5 players)
The winning team: Risto, Timo, Kodie, Mathew and Antti 58 1/8
The second: Assi, Robi, Jaska, Luke and Kaisa 58 6/8
The third: Aila, Raimo, Risto R and Mikko 59 6/8
The fourth: Pepe, Elli, Tarmo and Olli 61 6/8
The fifth Sirkka, Rauno, Elmi and Ville 63 2/8
What a close game indeed!
Thank you goes to Eva, Olli and the boys from the golf division for organising a fantastic day!
The rest of the year looks bright and eventful. We will keep you informed of the future happenings.
With kind regards
Elli
